Dronning Sirikit – Thailands dronningemor og nationens samvittighed
Thailands tidligere dronning, Sirikit, er død. Hun blev 93 år gammel. Hendes bortgang markerer afslutningen på en epoke, der strakte sig over mere end syv årtier, hvor hun stod ved siden af kong Bhumibol Adulyadej – Rama IX – som landets samlende skikkelse i en tid med store politiske og sociale forandringer.
Tidligt liv og mødet med kong Bhumibol
Sirikit Kitiyakara blev født den 12. august 1932 i Bangkok som datter af prins Nakkhatra Mangkala Kitiyakara og hans hustru Bua Kitiyakara. Faderen gjorde diplomatisk karriere og blev senere Thailands ambassadør i Frankrig. Det var i Paris i 1949, at den unge Sirikit mødte sin landsmand, kong Bhumibol, der dengang studerede musik og statskundskab i Schweiz.
Et venskab udviklede sig hurtigt, og da kongen senere samme år blev alvorligt kvæstet i en trafikulykke i Lausanne, besøgte Sirikit ham jævnligt på hospitalet. Forholdet voksede i dybde og fortrolighed, og den 28. april 1950 – kort før Bhumibols kroning – blev de to gift i Bangkok. Sammen fik de fire børn: kronprins Vajiralongkorn (nu Rama X), prinsesse Ubolratana, prinsesse Sirindhorn og prinsesse Chulabhorn. |
